The Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) has announced its pre-championship poll results for the upcoming MVC Outdoor Track & Field Championship meet. The Illinois State men's team is predicted to secure second place, while the Redbird women's team is expected to finish third among the league's ten men's teams and twelve women's teams.
Indiana State leads the men's poll with 100 points and 10 first-place votes. Illinois State follows closely with 87 points, trailed by Northern Iowa, Southern Illinois, and Drake.
In the women's category, Indiana State is favored to win with 141 points and nine first-place votes. Murray State is projected in second place with 129 points and two first-place votes. Illinois State ranks third with 126 points and one first-place vote. Notably, the Redbird women have claimed five consecutive MVC Outdoor titles since 2019.
Key athletes leading their events include Ryan Schaefer in decathlon, Amiri Buchanan in shot put, Dewayne Johnson in the 110m hurdles, Mathis Chavand in the 5,000m run, Raydoffa Braziel in the 400m race for men; Nnenna Okpara in the 200m race, Madison Saunders in triple jump, Macy Byer in discus for women.
To qualify for the NCAA West Preliminary Round, athletes must rank among the top 48 student-athletes in their respective events within the West Region. Among those ranked are Amiri Buchanan (shot put), Mattison Plummer (3,000m steeplechase), Charles Cruse (pole vault), Dewayne Johnson (110m hurdles), Devin Turner (long jump), Claire Fuhlhage (3,000m steeplechase), Macy Byer (discus), Jacob Klink (shot put), Hassy Fashina-Bombata (400m hurdles).
