Illinois State University's pitcher, Paige McLeod, has been recognized by the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) as both Pitcher and Newcomer of the Week for the second time in her career. The announcement was made by the league office on Tuesday following McLeod's exceptional performance during a series against Evansville.
McLeod achieved her second career no-hitter and maintained a 0.46 ERA across the three-game series sweep. Her hitless game marked her second no-hitter this season, having previously accomplished one against Loyola Chicago earlier in March.
This achievement is significant as it marks the first no-hitter at Marian Kneer Stadium in 23 years. McLeod becomes only the second player in Illinois State history to record multiple career no-hitters and is the first freshman to do so.
Over the weekend, McLeod pitched 15.1 innings, allowing just one earned run and securing five strikeouts with an opponent batting average of .151. Her contributions were instrumental in securing Illinois State Redbirds' fourth seed placement in the MVC tournament and concluding their regular season tied for third place.
