Illinois State golfer Ali Schrock has been honored as the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second time in her career. This recognition was announced by the MVC on Thursday, alongside academic team selections for Avalon Woodward, Jinyoung Yun, and Vinisha Gunaseelan.
Woodward, Yun, and Schrock have been named to the nine-person Scholar-Athlete First Team. Gunaseelan received an Honorable Mention.
Schrock previously earned this accolade after the 2021-22 season and is one of two golfers in conference history to receive it multiple times. Earlier this season, she became just the third golfer in MVC history to earn two or more MVC Elite 17 honors. The Pontiac native has also been recognized as a MVC Scholar-Athlete three times during her career.
In her final year of eligibility, Schrock has been named CSC Academic All-America twice and was the 2022 MVC Golfer of the Year. She holds a scoring average of 73.897 this season and tied for first place individually at the 2024 MVC Championship.
Woodward has made her third appearance on the Scholar-Athlete Team with a GPA of 3.97 in marketing. Her achievements include being named to both CSC Academic All-District Team and Women's Golf Coaches Association All-America Scholar list multiple times.
Yun was honored as the 2024 MVC Golfer of the Year and joined Schrock on both All-MVC and MVC All-Tournament Teams following a third-place finish at this year's championship. She set records with a scoring average of 72.448 this season.
Gunaseelan, who maintains a GPA of 3.68 in business administration, participated in all rounds this season with an average score that ranks ninth lowest in Illinois State women's golf history.
The Redbirds are set to compete at the East Lansing Regional from May 6-8 after winning by a significant margin at their last championship event.
This season marks historic achievements for Illinois State's golf program with record-breaking team performances including their lowest-ever scoring averages and tournament scores.
