Illinois State faced a setback in their series against UIC, falling 7-4 on Saturday at Les Miller Field. The Redbirds now stand at 25-23 overall and 13-10 in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC). In contrast, UIC improved their record to 32-15 overall and 15-8 in the MVC.
The game began with Illinois State taking an early lead. Senior Auggie Rasmussen hit a solo home run in the first inning, marking his third of the series. However, UIC responded with two runs each in the first and third innings, securing a 4-1 advantage by the end of four innings.
In the fifth inning, Illinois State managed to close the gap with two runs thanks to a sacrifice bunt from junior JT Sokolove and a balk by the UIC pitcher. The score was tied at 4-4 after sophomore Shai Robinson delivered a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning.
UIC regained control by scoring three more runs to seal their victory and level the series at one game each.
Notably, sophomore Luke Lawrence's streak of reaching base ended at 33 games. Junior Tanner Perry made his twelfth start for Illinois State, pitching for 6.2 innings and achieving four strikeouts.
The teams will meet again on Sunday for their final match of the weekend at Curtis Granderson Stadium. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. CT start and will be available on ESPN+.
