Illinois State University faced a setback against Eastern Illinois, losing 5-3 in their final non-conference game of the season at Duffy Bass Field. The Redbirds, with an overall record of 26-24, saw sophomore Daniel Pacella contribute two RBIs, increasing his season total to 57.

Eastern Illinois improved their overall record to 17-32 and achieved their ninth road victory of the season.

The game began with Eastern Illinois taking an early lead with a two-run home run and an RBI single in the first inning. In response, Illinois State leveled the score in the bottom of the first inning as Pacella and junior Noah Rabin hit consecutive home runs.

Following six innings without any scoring, Eastern Illinois secured their win with two RBI singles in the eighth inning, resulting in a final score of 5-3.

Sophomore Thomas Harper and junior Braden Roesch provided strong relief for Illinois State, combining for six scoreless innings. Roesch recorded three strikeouts during this period. The back-to-back home runs by Pacella and Rabin were notable as they were the first since May 3 against Southern Illinois when Rabin and redshirt junior Judah Morris achieved the same feat. This loss leaves Illinois State with a midweek game record of 5-6 for 2024. Additionally, Pacella's RBIs have tied him for eighth place in single-season RBIs within program history.

Illinois State will conclude its regular season with a three-game series against Belmont from May 16 to May 18 at Duffy Bass Field.
