Illinois State alumni excel in professional baseball across multiple leagues

Professional baseball is approaching the midpoint of the 2024 season, and Illinois State University alumni are actively participating across various teams. Here is an update on ten former Redbirds making their mark in professional baseball.

Paul DeJong, playing shortstop for the Chicago White Sox, was traded from St. Louis during the offseason. He has become a key player for the team, holding a .229 batting average with 66 hits, 36 runs, and 16 home runs. His on-base percentage stands at .280. The White Sox currently have a record of 26-67.

Brock Stewart has made thirteen appearances as a right-handed pitcher for the Minnesota Twins this year. He has recorded seven holds over 13.1 innings pitched and achieved seventeen strikeouts while maintaining an opponent batting average of .174. The Twins are second in the AL Central with a record of 52-39.

Owen Miller has split his time between Milwaukee Brewers and Nashville Sounds this season, appearing in sixty games overall. With Nashville, he holds a .259 batting average with thirteen extra-base hits and twenty RBIs.

Brent Headrick has been pitching for St. Paul Saints but hasn't played since April due to injury. In two starts this year, he allowed two earned runs over 8.2 innings with fifteen strikeouts.

John Rave is hitting .286 in seventy-five games at AAA level with Kansas City Royals' affiliate Omaha Storm Chasers, including fourteen home runs and eleven stolen bases.

Jeff Lindgren has appeared in both AA and AAA levels for Miami Marlins affiliates Pensacola Blue Wahoos and Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp respectively.

Colton Johnson plays for Oakland Athletics' High-A affiliate Lansing Lugnuts with thirty-seven strikeouts over thirty-three innings.

Ryan Cermak started his season strong with Tampa Bay Rays’ rookie-level team before moving to Bowling Green Hot Rods where he maintains solid statistics.

Nick Gile participates at both rookie-level ACL Rockies and A-level Fresno Grizzlies within Colorado Rockies organization showing potential despite lower batting averages.

Elijah Dale pitches for Seattle Mariners' Modesto Nuts holding opponents to a .206 batting average over seventy innings pitched so far this year.
