Illinois State University athletes Jacob Klink and Garrett Taylor are set to compete in the USATF U20 Championships, taking place on June 12-13 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Garrett Taylor will begin his participation on Wednesday, June 12, competing in the men's discus event at 6 p.m. CT. The following day, both Taylor and Jacob Klink will take part in the men's shot put competition at 8 p.m. CT.
Jacob Klink recently represented Illinois State at the NCAA West Prelims held in Arkansas. The freshman qualified for this regional event with a personal-best mark of 17.80 meters (58-4.75) during the annual Redbird Challenge, ranking him sixth in program history for shot put. At the regional meet, he achieved a throw of 17.21 meters (56-5.75), finishing 34th overall in his first postseason NCAA appearance.
Garrett Taylor has earned All-MVC honors in both shot put and discus during his first year with the Redbirds. He placed third in discus with a mark of 49.88 meters (163-8) and sixth in shot put with a toss of 16.56 meters (54-4). Additionally, he recorded a career-best shot put throw of 17.03 meters (55-10.5) at the Drake Relays and achieved a personal best discus throw of 51.58 meters (169-3) at the Gary Wieneke Memorial.
