Illinois Wesleyan set to face Millikin University in key baseball doubleheader

The Illinois Wesleyan University (IWU) baseball team is preparing for a significant doubleheader against Millikin University, scheduled for Saturday, April 27. The games are part of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) competition. The first game will begin at noon.

Both teams enter the matchup with identical conference records of 11-3, tying them for first place in the CCIW standings alongside North Park University. IWU holds an overall record of 22-9, while Millikin stands at 21-12.

Recently, IWU secured a victory against Carthage College with a score of 4-0. Sophomore Cole Shamhart delivered an impressive performance by striking out a career-high 12 batters over six innings. Senior Jacob Cyrus contributed five strikeouts in the final three innings. This combined effort resulted in 17 strikeouts, tying for third-most in program history and marking the highest since April 18, 2014.

Freshman John Philip Ferraro went 2-for-3 at bat during the Carthage game, while senior Louis Perona finished 2-for-4. Cyrus added two RBIs to his name as junior Justin Gadomski and Perona each contributed one RBI.

Historically, IWU has faced Millikin University 119 times since their first encounter in 1988, leading the series with an all-time record of 80-39. However, Millikin won their last meeting with a score of 5-3.
