Illinois Wesleyan athletes receive academic honors from CCIW

The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) has announced the recipients of the Academic All-Conference honors for the 2022 fall season. A total of 95 student-athletes from Illinois Wesleyan University were recognized on the Dave Wrath Academic All-CCIW team. Senior football player Anthony Wachal Jr. and junior Lexi Onsrud were named as IWU's Jack Swartz Award winners.

The CCIW Academic All-Conference list includes individuals who have achieved a grade-point average of 3.30 or above and have completed at least one year in residency at their respective schools.

Additionally, the CCIW revealed all recipients of the Jack Swartz Academic All-Conference award. Each member institution selects two student-athletes, one male and one female, from each sport season to be honored. Eligibility requires a grade point average of 3.50 or above and at least one year in residency.

Anthony Wachal Jr., a Second Team All-CCIW pick, had a strong senior season with 84 tackles, three interceptions, four pass breakups, and 1.5 tackles for loss. He also returned a blocked kick for a touchdown on special teams. Wachal Jr., who holds a 3.72 GPA as a finance major, received accolades such as CCIW Player of the Week and D3football.com Team of the Week.

Lexi Onsrud maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA as a health promotions and fitness management major. She participated in five tournaments during the fall season, achieving two wins and placing in the top ten each time. Onsrud earned CCIW medalist honors with her performance leading to her team's conference championship win.
