Illinois Wesleyan University sophomore pitcher Cole Shamhart has been recognized with his third College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Pitcher of the Week award. This achievement was announced by the league on Monday, April 29. Shamhart becomes the first Titan to receive this accolade three times in a single season since Cory Lapinski, who earned it four times in 2005.
Earlier in March, Shamhart had already been honored twice. In total, six Titans from Illinois Wesleyan have received CCIW weekly honors this season.
Shamhart played a crucial role in securing a spot for his team in the upcoming tournament with a significant win against Carthage on April 23. During this game, he pitched six scoreless innings and achieved a career-high of 12 strikeouts.
Currently, Shamhart ranks third in the conference for ERA at 2.35 and has held opponents to a .250 batting average. He is also third in the CCIW for batters struck out, with a total of 59.
The Illinois Wesleyan Titans are scheduled to play against Blackburn College on Tuesday, April 30. The non-conference game will take place at Horenberger Field at 6 p.m.
