The Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team faced a narrow defeat against Elmhurst University in a 2-1 game that extended into extra innings on Friday, April 5, at Horenberger Field in Bloomington, Illinois. The loss moves IWU to a 13-8 overall record with a 3-2 standing in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW), while Elmhurst improves to 6-14 overall and 2-2 in CCIW play.

Jack Flagg and William Duff led the Titans with two hits each. Louis Perona, Justin Gadomski, and Tyler Woltman contributed one hit apiece. Woltman achieved the team's only RBI of the game, and Duff managed the sole double.

On the pitching side, six Titans took to the mound. Jacob Cyrus delivered an impressive six innings with nine strikeouts. Alex Smith added two innings with three strikeouts. Luke Schwab was credited with the loss, bringing his season record to 1-2.

The game remained scoreless until the sixth inning when IWU took a brief lead. Perona hit into left-center field, advancing on Gadomski's single. A sacrifice bunt by Cyrus positioned Perona for scoring just as Woltman grounded out to shortstop for an RBI.

Elmhurst responded promptly with a run in the seventh inning to tie it up at 1-1. In subsequent innings, both teams struggled to break through until Elmhurst's solo home run in the top of the tenth secured their victory.

Despite having runners on base due to an error and a walk during their final attempt, IWU could not overcome Elmhurst's lead.

The Titans are set to face North Central College next in Naperville, Illinois on Saturday, April 6 for a doubleheader beginning at noon at Zimmerman Stadium.
