Augustana edges past Illinois Wesleyan women's soccer team with a narrow victory

Illinois Wesleyan University's women's soccer team faced a challenging match against Augustana College, resulting in a 1-0 defeat in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play on October 4. The game took place in Rock Island, Illinois. Following this match, IWU's record stands at 1-10-1 overall and 0-3-1 in the conference, while Augustana improves to 9-1-2 overall and 2-0-1 in CCIW.

During the first half, both teams displayed competitive play with Augustana narrowly leading in shots (6 to IWU's 5), saves (3 to IWU's 2), and corners (4 to IWU's 2). The game's only goal came from Augustana's Liesl Whitener, who scored from long range in the 23rd minute.

The second half saw Illinois Wesleyan successfully prevent any additional goals from Augustana. The Titans limited their opponents to seven shots while attempting five themselves. Freshmen Ava Mapes, Sophie Lampert, and sophomore Sawyer White each made three shot attempts for IWU.

In her debut as goalkeeper, junior Madalyn Buxton recorded five saves while facing six shots on goal.

Looking ahead, the Titans will travel to Waukesha, Wisconsin for another CCIW matchup against Carroll University on Saturday, October 7. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff at Schneider Stadium.
