The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team achieved a decisive victory over Augustana College with a 22-2 win on Senior Day, April 27. This result improved the Titans' record to 9-7 overall and 4-2 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW), securing their spot in the upcoming CCIW Tournament. Meanwhile, Augustana ended its season with a 3-10 overall record and 1-5 in league play.
Before the game, Illinois Wesleyan honored seniors Britney Maldonado and Hannah Trousdale. Both players delivered strong performances in their final home game at Tucci Stadium. Maldonado contributed significantly with five goals and five assists, while junior Mia Fiandaca led scoring with seven goals. Junior Avery Setzler matched her career-high by earning six points through three goals and three assists.
The Titans dominated the draw controls with a 19-9 advantage. Fiandaca excelled by securing seven draw controls, while sophomore Sadie Newton added five, and Devon Hanson contributed three. Fiandaca also led in ground balls and caused turnovers, both tallying seven.
Sophomore Sarah Riepe had a standout performance as well, achieving career-highs of six ground balls and six caused turnovers. Hanson and Trousdale each added three caused turnovers, marking a new career-high for Trousdale in her final home appearance.
In goal, junior Lizzie Rymarcsuk secured her fourth consecutive win by making four saves alongside two ground balls and two caused turnovers during her full-time presence on the field.
Maldonado set the pace early by assisting Fiandaca for an opening goal within just 20 seconds of play. Shortly after, Maldonado scored her milestone 100th career goal following a turnover forced by Hanson.
Illinois Wesleyan maintained momentum throughout the match, including back-to-back goals from Fiandaca and contributions from various teammates to close out each quarter strongly. The team continued to widen their lead into halftime with a score of 13-2.
After halftime, Setzler assisted DiGiovanni for another quick goal within the first minute of play. Riepe's contribution further extended the lead to 15-2 before entering the final quarter where IWU scored five more unanswered goals.
As they await final seeding for the CCIW Tournament scheduled for May 1st, Illinois Wesleyan remains poised following this comprehensive victory.
