The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team is set to face Lake Forest College in a non-conference match on Wednesday, April 3. The game will take place at Farwell Field and is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.
The Titans are coming off a 17-11 defeat against the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on March 30. In that game, senior Britney Maldonado led with five points, scoring three goals and providing two assists. Junior Bri Kiser matched her career-high with 15 saves during the match.
Maldonado is having an impressive senior season, ranking second nationally in assists with 44 and assists per game at 4.89. Her average of 8.11 points per game is the third-highest in the country, placing her sixth overall in points with a total of 73. She is also close to breaking the single-season program record for assists, needing just five more.
Junior Mia Fiandaca leads the team with 31 goals and holds second place in overall points for the Titans with 34. Sophomores Devon Hanson and Carleigh Fountain follow closely behind with 26 and 25 points respectively.
Hanson has secured a team-high of 50 draw controls this season, followed by Fiandaca's 33 and sophomore Sadie Newton's tally of 32. Both Hanson and Kiser have collected a team-best of 29 ground balls each, while sophomore Sarah Riepe has picked up 22.
Fiandaca leads a defense that ranks first nationally in caused turnovers per game, averaging an impressive rate of 17.33 per contest. She has caused a team-high of 29 turnovers this season, placing seventh nationally for her average of caused turnovers per game.
Kiser has played all minutes as goalie this season for Illinois Wesleyan, posting a record of five wins and four losses while stopping a total of 87 shots — more than any other goalie in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW).
This upcoming match marks the first meeting between Illinois Wesleyan and Lake Forest College in program history. Lake Forest enters Wednesday's contest following an18-10 victory over Cornell College on March 30, bringing their season record to eight wins and two losses.
