The Illinois Wesleyan University softball team will honor its six seniors on Saturday, April 27, before a significant College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin doubleheader against Carroll University. The event is scheduled to begin at Inspiration Field with the Senior Day ceremony around 12:40 p.m., followed by the first pitch at 1 p.m.
The Titans enter the game with a 22-9 overall record and an 8-2 record in CCIW games, leading the league. They are narrowly ahead of Augustana, making Saturday's matches critical for postseason prospects. Recently, IWU split a non-conference doubleheader with Coe on April 24, winning the first game with a walk-off double by junior Jen Kuhn before losing the second. Carroll arrives in Bloomington holding an 11-23 record after being swept by UW-Oshkosh on April 25. Despite their record, Carroll has been competitive, losing ten games by two runs or less.
IWU leads the all-time series against CU with a record of 19-3 and has won five of their last six encounters. In their most recent meeting on April 15, 2023, IWU swept Carroll in Waukesha.
Key players for IWU include freshman Hailey Milgazo, who boasts a .462 batting average and leads the team with 48 hits. Jen Kuhn holds a .441 average with ten doubles and tops the team in RBIs at 33. Sophomore Anna Beckman contributes significantly as well with four triples and a .520 on-base percentage.
On the mound, sophomore Gianna Certa has been impressive with a 1.45 ERA and a record of 12-2 across her appearances this season.
Seniors Megan Fontanetta, Isabelle Piwowarczyk, Hope Yeoman, Maya Black, Priscilla Peek, and Bailey Turner will be recognized before the game for their contributions to IWU's success over past seasons.
