Illinois Wesleyan softball prepares for doubleheader against Lake Forest

The Illinois Wesleyan University softball team is set to travel for a doubleheader against Lake Forest College on Saturday, March 30. The games are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

IWU enters the match-up with an eight-game winning streak and holds a 10-4 overall record. Their recent performance includes sweeping Illinois College on March 26 with scores of 13-8 and 11-8 at Inspiration Field. Lake Forest currently has a balanced record of 7-7 after splitting a doubleheader against Elmhurst on March 28, where they lost the first game 11-4 but secured a win in the second game with a score of 7-0.

Since 2012, IWU has dominated Lake Forest with a record of 12-1 and is on a five-game winning streak against them. The Titans last faced the Foresters on March 15, 2022, when they achieved victories of 9-6 and then completed the sweep with a score of 6-2.

Key players for IWU include sophomore Anna Beckman from Bourbonnais, Ill., who leads the team with a .528 batting average and three triples this season. Junior Jen Kuhn from Normal, Ill., follows closely with a .522 average and leads in hits (24), doubles (six), walks (seven), and holds an on-base percentage of .585. Freshman Hailey Milgazo from Poway, Calif., maintains an even .500 batting average while leading in runs scored (18) and stolen bases (six).

Sophomore Casey Wissmiller from Bloomington, Ill., leads the team in RBIs with seventeen through fourteen games. Junior Ava Khoury from Columbia, Ill., has contributed thirteen RBIs as well.

On the pitching side, freshman Mallory Holland from Shelbyville, Ill., boasts strong relief performances with an ERA of 2.71 over twenty innings pitched. Sophomore Gianna Certa from Third Lake, Ill., maintains a team-best ERA of 1.96 over thirty-five innings pitched alongside twenty-nine strikeouts and only three walks this season.
