The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team maintained its winning streak on Wednesday, September 18, by defeating Monmouth College with a score of 3-0. This victory allowed the Titans to match their best start since the 2012 season. With this win, their record improved to 4-0-1, while Monmouth's record fell to 2-4-1.
During the first half, the Titans faced difficulties in scoring despite taking 12 shots compared to just two by the Scots. However, junior Logan Tierney managed to score from a penalty kick at the 40-minute mark.
In the second half, sophomore Matthew Perchik scored twice. His first goal came in the 77th minute following an assist from senior Devyn Kennedy. Kennedy delivered a kick from 25 yards out over defenders, giving Perchik a one-on-one opportunity with Monmouth's goalkeeper. Perchik successfully lobbed the ball over the goalkeeper for a goal.
Perchik and Kennedy collaborated again in the 84th minute. A cross found Kennedy at the far post; his header was saved but deflected off the goalkeeper’s gloves, allowing Perchik to capitalize on the rebound for his second goal of the match.
Junior Sam Kedzior made three saves during his time as goalkeeper and helped maintain a clean sheet for IWU. The Titans took a total of 27 shots against Monmouth's six.
Illinois Wesleyan will next face Knox College at home on Saturday, September 21, at Neis Field with kickoff scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
