The Illinois State track and field team concluded its regular season with several victories at the Badger Challenge in Madison, Wisconsin. This event served as a final preparation before the upcoming MVC Championship meet.
On the men's side, senior Amiri Buchanan achieved a personal best in the shot put with a throw of 19.12 meters. Other notable performances included senior Joe Boyer placing seventh, freshman Cole Stevens finishing eighth, and freshman Garrett Taylor taking tenth in the same event. In the hammer throw, senior Josh Schmid secured seventh place while junior Anthoney Smith finished ninth.
In track events, senior Brandon Ratliff won the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.86 seconds, and freshman Jonathan Tegal followed closely behind in second place. Tegal also claimed victory in the 400m hurdles. Junior Tyler Didde took third place in the 100m dash.
Junior Edward Watkins finished second in the 400m dash, while sophomore Garrett Slack achieved a personal best to finish third in the 800m run. Graduate student Nick Doud placed third in the 3,000m run, with freshman Dylan Meyers finishing fourth. Junior Caleb Emmanuel-Lerus recorded a personal best to finish third in the 200m dash.
The men's relay team finished second in the 4x100m relay with a time that ranks fifth-best in program history.
For the women's team, senior Morgan Wrublik finished fifth in the hammer throw and junior Batya Butler took fifth place in shot put. Senior Macy Byer excelled by taking second place in discus. Sophomore Isabelle Hemmen won pole vault with a personal-best height.
In high jump, senior Carly Tucker secured third place while junior Ella Vaveck came fifth. Senior Hassy Fashina-Bombata triumphed in the 100m hurdles, and sophomore Lindsey Miller won first place in the 100m dash with senior Samone Winters coming second.
Senior Sabrina Schlenker placed fourth in the 400m hurdles. Freshman Chavi Flowers and senior Mattie Lieb took second and third places respectively in the 200m dash. Lauren Schulze finished second with a personal best time in the 5,000m run. The women's relay team clinched first place in their event.
The Illinois State track and field squad will next compete at the MVC Outdoor Track & Field Championship from May 10-12 at Indiana State University.
