The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team secured victories in two matches on Saturday, February 17, at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington, Illinois. The Titans dominated their morning match against Monmouth College with a score of 9-0 and later edged out Principia College in a close contest, winning 5-4. With these wins, Illinois Wesleyan's record improves to 3-1 for the season. Meanwhile, Monmouth remains winless at 0-5, and Principia stands at an even 2-2.
In the first match against Monmouth, Illinois Wesleyan displayed strong performances across the board. The afternoon encounter with Principia proved more challenging. Sophomore Ian Turnbull and senior Ryan McCoy achieved a quick victory at No. 1 doubles. Freshman Thad Dillow and sophomore Griffin Hammond secured a crucial point by winning the tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles.
During singles play against Principia, Turnbull won his match after losing the first set with scores of 4-6, 6-0, and 10-6. At No. 4 singles, Dillow also recovered from a first-set loss to win with scores of 6-3 and 12-10 in subsequent sets. Hammond contributed to the team's success by winning his match at No. 6 singles with scores of 6-3 and 6-2.
Illinois Wesleyan is scheduled to face Webster next Friday, February 23rd at Evergreen Racquet Club starting at 7 p.m., with results to be posted on iwusports.com after the event concludes.
