Illinois Wesleyan men's tennis splits matches against Eastern Illinois and Lawrence

The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team had a mixed outcome in their triangular meet on February 3, 2024. The event took place at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington, where the Titans faced Division I Eastern Illinois University and Lawrence University.

In the morning session, the Titans were defeated by Eastern Illinois with a score of 0-7. Sophomore Ben Vigneri from Casper, Wyoming, competed strongly at No. 2 singles but lost to Pau Riera with scores of 6-3 and 6-4. In doubles, sophomore Ian Turnbull and senior Ryan McCoy fell short against their opponents Tyler Carlin and Jon Karlstad, losing 8-3.

The afternoon match saw a different outcome for the Titans as they swept Lawrence University with a decisive 9-0 victory. Turnbull excelled at No. 1 singles, winning his sets 6-2 and 6-1. Freshman Thad Dillow celebrated his first college career win at No. 4 singles with scores of 6-4 and 6-0.

Vigneri also claimed victory at No. 2 singles with set scores of 6-0 and 6-3, while junior Zeke Cross won his match at No. 5 singles after a tiebreaker, finishing with scores of 6-2 and 7-6.

Looking ahead, the Titans will compete again on February 17 in another triangular meet against Monmouth College and Principia College at the same venue.
