The Illinois Wesleyan University women's bowling team and five of its student-athletes have been named to the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) All-Academic list for the 2021-22 academic year. To qualify, individuals must have a GPA of 3.4 or higher, while teams need a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2. The Titans achieved a team GPA of 3.34, placing them among 52 recognized programs.
Seniors Jade Miller, Sarah Buchmann, and Ashley Cook; junior Shea Atkins; and freshman Laina Chavarria were acknowledged by the NTCA for their academic achievements. They are among 397 student-athletes from 67 institutions honored nationwide. The Titans' team GPA ranked as the second-highest in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.
Miller completed her degree in Elementary Education with a GPA of 3.51. Buchmann graduated with degrees in English and Secondary Education, recording a senior year GPA of 3.84. Cook earned her degree in History and Education with a final season GPA of 3.43. Atkins continues her studies in Hispanic Studies - Secondary Education with a GPA of 3.41 this past year, while Chavarria recorded a first-year nursing major GPA of 3.84.
Under first-year head coach Mellissa Mutter, IWU competed in its second season as a program, achieving program-bests in both traditional and baker match formats.
The NTCA plays an important role in advancing NCAA Women's Bowling through facilitating dialogue between coaches and the NCAA regarding legislation and rules development, as well as providing education to grow the sport.
