Illinois Wesleyan University has announced the addition of three new coaches to its wrestling program. Interim head coach Adam Richards introduced Michael Triplett, Brian Roberts, and Steven Robbins as the latest members of the coaching staff on Wednesday.
"I am thrilled to welcome our new wrestling staff to Illinois Wesleyan University as we continue to build and strengthen our program," said Richards. "Their vast experience in both folkstyle and freestyle wrestling, along with their deep connections to the local community and surrounding region, will be invaluable assets to both our men's and women's teams. With their passion, expertise, and commitment to developing well-rounded student-athletes, I am confident that they will help elevate our program to new heights."
Michael Triplett joins from Normal Community where he coached from 2018 until 2024, with a brief period at Lincoln College in 2020. He was instrumental in leading Normal Community to consecutive conference titles in 2023 and 2024 while coaching seven national qualifiers before Lincoln College closed.
Brian Roberts brings 13 years of coaching experience across Minnesota, North Dakota, and Illinois. Most recently at LeRoy High School—his alma mater—he led the wrestling team to three regional championships over five years. During his tenure there, he coached numerous state qualifiers including one state champion.
Steven Robbins completes the coaching lineup for the upcoming season. A Bloomington native like Triplett, Robbins graduated from Bloomington High School in 2006 where he also served as an assistant coach prior to joining Illinois Wesleyan.
The Titans are set to start their season on Saturday, November 9th at the Millikin Open in Decatur.
