Despite a determined effort, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team was defeated 6-0 by North Central College in a match held on Wednesday evening. The game, part of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, saw IWU's record fall to 3-10-2 overall and 1-4-1 in conference play. Meanwhile, North Central improved its standing to 13-4 overall and 5-1 in the CCIW.
North Central took an early lead with a goal in the sixth minute and extended it further in the 21st minute. A notable moment came when Illinois Wesleyan's freshman goalkeeper Grace Kiewiet made a crucial save during a two-on-one situation, keeping the score at 2-0 temporarily.
However, North Central managed to score again in the 37th minute, leading to a halftime score of 3-0. After the break, North Central quickly added two more goals. Despite efforts from Illinois Wesleyan's defense to limit opportunities for their opponents, North Central scored once more before the final whistle.
Throughout the match, Illinois Wesleyan trailed significantly in shots taken, managing only five compared to North Central's 24. Of these attempts, four were on target for IWU. Kiewiet recorded seven saves during the game.
Illinois Wesleyan is set to face Carroll University next on Saturday at Neis Field. This match will be part of a senior day double feature alongside the men's program.
