Illinois Wesleyan women's tennis defeats Millikin for first conference win

The Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team secured a decisive victory against Millikin University in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin match held on Wednesday, September 18. The Titans triumphed over the Big Blue with a score of 6-1, marking their first conference win of the season. This victory improved IWU's overall record to 3-2 and their conference record to 1-2, while Millikin University's record fell to 0-6 overall and 0-3 in league play.

In doubles competition, IWU claimed the point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Senior Kate Christian from Washington Community High School and freshman Gabi Lipske from Mundelein High School won at No. 2 doubles with a score of 7-5. The Titans also benefited from a forfeit by Millikin at No. 3 doubles.

The singles matches saw Illinois Wesleyan winning five out of six contests. Sophomore Amber Ehrlich from Glenwood High School secured victory at No. 2 singles with set scores of 6-4, 6-2. Lipske continued her success by winning her sets at No. 2 singles with scores of 6-1, 6-2, while Christian dominated her opponent at No. 4 singles with scores of 6-1, 6-0. Victories were also awarded to sophomore Carly Edwards from Metamora Township High School and freshman Angela Zatloka from Argo Community High School due to forfeits by Millikin players at positions No. 5 and No. 6 respectively.

The Titans are scheduled to compete again on Monday, September 23, when they will face Elmhurst University in another CCIW matchup at Lester Brune Tennis Courts starting at 4:15 p.m.
