Wheaton defeats Illinois Wesleyan in women's tennis conference match

The Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team faced Wheaton College in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin match on Friday, October 11. The Titans were defeated by the Thunder with a score of 7-0. This result leaves IWU with an overall record of 6-5 and a conference record of 2-5, while Wheaton improved to 7-3 overall and 6-1 in CCIW play.

Despite the loss, several players from Illinois Wesleyan managed to take games from their opponents. Notably, sophomore Carly Edwards and freshman Katie Van Heuklon had a close match at No. 3 doubles but ultimately lost 7-6 to Wheaton's Janet Kondo and Delaney Canning.

Illinois Wesleyan will continue its weekend matches against North Central College on Saturday, October 12, at the Naperville Tennis Club.

In doubles competition, Madeline Gentry and Lydia Adams of Wheaton defeated Amber Ehrlich and Olivia Bell from IWU with a score of 6-3. Tatum Thurstone and Ella Malone also won their match against Kate Christian and Gabi Lipske by the same margin. The duo of Janet Kondo and Delaney Canning secured another win for Wheaton against Carly Edwards and Katie Van Heuklon with a tight scoreline of 7-6.

In singles play, Madeline Gentry bested Amber Ehrlich with scores of 6-0, 6-3. Alexandra Wachs claimed victory over Gabi Lipske. Lydia Adams overcame Katie Van Heuklon in straight sets, both ending at 6-3. Ella Malone defeated Olivia Bell similarly with scores of 6-3 each set. Delaney Canning triumphed over Kate Christian in two sets: 6-3, 6-4. Finally, Tatum Thurstone shut out Carly Edwards with two consecutive sets at 6-0.
