BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team faced a setback in their College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin opener against Augustana College on Friday, September 13. The Titans were defeated 7-0, bringing their overall record to 2-1 and their conference record to 0-1. Augustana improved its standing to 1-1 both overall and in the conference.
In doubles play, sophomores Amber Ehrlich from Springfield and Olivia Bell from Bloomington secured a victory in the top pair position with a score of 6-4. However, Augustana claimed the other two doubles matches, earning the first point of the contest.
During singles competition, Ehrlich put up a strong fight at No. 1 singles but ultimately lost in a tiebreaker. After losing the first set 6-1, she came back to win the second set 6-2 before being narrowly defeated 10-7 in the deciding tiebreaker.
Illinois Wesleyan will quickly return to action as they host North Park University on Saturday morning, September 14. North Park enters with an undefeated record of 3-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play after securing a victory against Millikin University. The match is scheduled for a start time of 9:30 a.m. at Evergreen Racquet Club.
Singles results included Hannah Colbert defeating Amber Ehrlich; Anna-Maria Huebel winning over Gabi Lipske; Colleen Larry overcoming Olivia Bell; Natasha Gauerke beating Kate Christian; Maitreyi Shrikhande defeating Carly Edwards; and Maddy Harned winning against Angela Zatloka.
In doubles results, Ehrlich and Bell won against Colbert and Larry; Gauerke and Shrikhande triumphed over Lipske and Christian; Timerman and Harned bested Edwards and Zatloka.
