Illinois House Republicans file lawsuit against legislative maps

House Republicans in Illinois have filed a lawsuit against the state's legislative maps, claiming they are unconstitutionally gerrymandered. They aim to establish an independent commission for drawing district maps. "House Republicans believe that voters should choose their elected officials and not the other way around," they stated.

In tax news, Illinois residents will be able to file their 2024 returns for free through the IRS Direct File program. This initiative is designed to simplify the filing process for eligible taxpayers.

The topic of pensions has also surfaced with concerns about potential increases in benefits. A statement reads, “Until lawmakers prove to taxpayers that something needs to be done to Tier 2, any increase in benefits would be political malpractice.”

Rep. Tipsword attended a Court of Honor Ceremony where two members of Eureka Scout Troop #57 were recognized as Eagle Scouts. Adrian Lee and Deacon Dingledine received Certificates of Achievement during this event.

A community effort named Cuddles with Kindness is underway, collecting stuffed animals for children at OSF Children’s Hospital of Illinois until February 6, 2025.

Eureka has been acknowledged as a dementia-friendly community, becoming the 37th such community in Illinois. This designation reflects efforts in education and supportive care within the city.

Significant funding has been allocated by the Capital Development Board for IDNR projects, including $10.2 million for repairs at Hennepin Canal Parkway State Park's Lock 33.

Jessica Wentz, a first-grade teacher at Washington Grade School, received the Milken Educator Award along with a $25,000 prize for her educational contributions.

Rep. Tipsword has been appointed to seven committees in the 104th General Assembly focusing on various issues such as public safety and health care licenses.

Lastly, Illinois soybean farmers set a new production record last year, maintaining their status as top producers nationally. A new label will soon help shoppers identify locally grown products.
