The Illinois State baseball team is preparing for its first midweek game of the 2025 season against Ball State. The matchup is scheduled for Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. CT in Muncie, Indiana.

Ball State, with a record of 4-3, recently split a four-game series at Sacramento State. Under the guidance of head coach Rich Maloney, who is in his 19th season, the team secured victories on Thursday and Saturday, bringing Maloney's career wins to 992. Ball State was selected by league coaches to win the Mid-American Conference in the 2025 preseason poll, receiving six first-place votes and a total of 95 points.

This game marks the first meeting between the Cardinals and Redbirds since their last encounter in 2006 when Ball State won 9-3 at a neutral site in Minneapolis. It will also be Illinois State's first visit to Muncie in 22 years; their last trip was in 2003 for a three-game series.

Illinois State's schedule includes games against teams that averaged 27 wins last season, with five qualifying for NCAA regionals. Seven opponents finished last season ranked within the top 100 in RPI.

The Missouri Valley Conference Championships are set to take place at Duffy Bass Field in Normal, Illinois from May 20 to May 24, marking the first time since 2019 that Illinois State will host this event.

After facing Ball State, Illinois State will travel to Saint Charles, Missouri for a three-game series against Lindenwood from February 28 to March 2.
