The Illinois Wesleyan University track and field teams are preparing to start their outdoor season this weekend. The teams will divide, with some athletes participating in the Redbird Challenge at Illinois State University and others competing in the Big Blue Alumni Invite at Millikin University. The events will take place on Friday and Saturday, March 28-29.
This weekend marks the first outdoor meet for the Illinois Wesleyan teams since four team members competed at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships. Among those who competed, junior Evan Lowder from Bloomington, Illinois, received First Team All-American honors with an eighth-place finish in the 400-meter event. Sophomore Imani Ogunribido and freshman Nick Walker were distinguished as second-team honorees for the women's triple jump and men's high jump, respectively. Senior Carlyssa King completed her indoor season in the weight throw, now shifting focus to the hammer throw in the outdoor season.
The Redbird Challenge will begin with the hammer throw competitions on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Redbird Track and Field Complex. On Saturday, field events will start at 10 a.m., with track events beginning at noon. The 800-meter wheelchair exhibition is scheduled to start the track events at 11:55 a.m.
In Decatur, field events at Frank M. Lindsay Field are set to start at 10 a.m. on Saturday, followed by the track events at noon.
