After a successful weekend series sweep against Elmhurst University, John Philip Ferraro, a sophomore baseball player from Illinois Wesleyan University, was awarded the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Hitter of the Week honor. This accolade, announced on Monday, April 7, marks Ferraro's first career weekly award and the first for his team, the Titans, this season.
Ferraro contributed significantly to the Titans' performance, excelling not only in their series against Elmhurst but also in a single game against Millikin last Thursday. Over the five wins for the Titans, Ferraro hit a double and blasted three home runs.
In his week-long performance, Ferraro achieved nine hits out of 17 at-bats and recorded a slugging percentage of 1.118. The sophomore player also accumulated 10 RBIs and scored five runs.
Notably, Ferraro hit home runs in three of the four games he participated in. He started with a two-run home run at Millikin in the top of the first inning, followed by a home run that extended the lead in the first game against Elmhurst University. Lastly, he delivered a three-run home run to right field, securing the lead in the second game against Elmhurst.
Looking ahead, the Titans are scheduled to return to CCIW action on Tuesday, April 8, when they will face North Central College at home. The first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
