Following a historic performance at The Normal Invite, Illinois Wesleyan University's Carlyssa King received her first College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Field Athlete of the Week award. The announcement was made by the league office on Wednesday, April 16.

King, a senior thrower from Decatur, Illinois, set a new school record in the women's weight throw with a mark of 53.94m (177'0") at the event hosted by Illinois State University on April 11. Remarkably, she was the sole non-Division I athlete competing and exceeded her opponents by over 16 feet.

Her throw broke the previous school record set by Karly Goodman in 2018 by more than a foot. King’s performance currently ranks first in the CCIW by an eight-foot margin and is the sixth-best in Division III this year.

Illinois Wesleyan plans to participate in the upcoming Gibson Invitational at Indiana State University from April 17-19.
