Redbird pitcher Tyrelle Chadwick has been selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 18th round of the MLB Draft, with an overall pick number of 527. Chadwick is the second Redbird to be drafted this year, following Shai Robinson.
Under the guidance of head coach Steve Holm, now in his sixth year, Chadwick becomes the 14th player from Illinois State University to be picked in the MLB Draft. He also follows Joe Aeilts as another Redbird under Holm's leadership to join the Colorado Rockies.
Tyrelle Chadwick continues a family legacy by joining his father, Ray Chadwick, as a Major League Baseball draft pick. Ray was chosen in the 16th round of the 1983 MLB June Amateur Draft by the California Angels and made his major league debut in 1986.
In 2025, Tyrelle earned All-MVC Second Team honors after making 12 starts out of 14 appearances for Illinois State. He pitched a team-high total of 77.1 innings during his junior year, including one complete game. On March 18th, he was named MVC Pitcher of the Week for pitching six scoreless innings against Western Illinois.
