The Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team secured a 13-3 victory over Monmouth College on Wednesday night, April 9, in a non-conference game at Horenberger Field. This win boosted their season record to 13-11, while Monmouth College fell to 9-15.
The Titans employed a bullpen strategy with pitchers Brady Hartman, Jonathan Ciullo, Caleb Martinez, Cade Addis, and Marshall Ingold. Cade Addis earned his first career win with two strikeouts over two innings.
At the plate, Cade Tomhave led with a 2-for-3 performance, contributing a double, two RBIs, and a run. Gage Wolfe also had a successful outing, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Illinois Wesleyan scored 13 runs on 11 hits and played without defensive errors. They took an early lead in the second inning due to walks, with Casey Swanson and Ben Ford scoring. Although Monmouth briefly held the lead in the third inning, scoring three runs, Wesleyan responded strongly in the fifth inning.
Cade Tomhave initiated the fifth-inning rally with a single, followed by contributions from Jimmy Gurgone, Luca Morelli, and a sacrifice fly each from Ben Ford and William Duff. A two-run double from Justin Gadomski rounded off the five-run inning.
The sixth inning saw five more runs from IWU, including hits from Ford, Wolfe, and a double from Duff. Gadomski and Tomhave further extended the lead with additional RBIs. The game ended when Matt Hudik's hit in the seventh inning drove in Swanson, enforcing the run-rule win.
Illinois Wesleyan is set to continue its Conference play over the weekend in a series against Augustana College, starting with a doubleheader in Rock Island and concluding at Jack Horenberger Field.
