The Illinois State women's tennis team secured a 6-1 victory over Valparaiso at the Valpo Tennis Complex on Saturday. The win brings the Redbirds' record to 12-6 overall and 5-1 within the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC), while Valparaiso continues to struggle with a 3-14 record overall and 0-6 in the conference.
In doubles action, the Illinois State team earned the point with wins from the freshman duo of Emma Lindh from Malmo, Sweden, and Nicole Iosio from Cordenons, Italy, at the No. 2 position, with a 6-2 victory. At the No. 3 spot, freshman Sophie Marie Lowe and junior Zoe Limparis secured their match due to a withdrawal by Valparaiso.
In singles play, the Redbirds claimed victories in four matches. Junior Silvia Pomarolli from Cecina, Italy, triumphed over Jolene Fernandes with a tiebreaker win, while Emma Lindh added another victory by defeating Brynn Steven in straight sets. Nicole Iosio battled her way to a win against Lacey Tanner, and Sophie Marie Lowe rounded off the triumph by dominating Lillian Kelly.
Next, the Redbirds are set to face off against the UIC Flames in Chicago, with the match scheduled for Sunday inside the XS Tennis Village. Illinois State will host the Belmont Bruins for their final home match of the season on April 18 at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington, Illinois.
