The Illinois State women's tennis team faced a setback on Sunday, losing 5-2 to the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) Flames during a match at XS Tennis Village, Chicago. The defeat moves Illinois State's record to 12-7 overall and 5-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference, while UIC improved to 14-4 overall and 6-1 in conference play.
In doubles matches, Illinois State secured the point. The pair of juniors Lana Caculovic from Croatia and Silvia Pomarolli from Italy triumphed over UIC players Liu and Ushio with a 6-3 score at No. 1. At No. 2, freshman Emma Lindh from Sweden and graduate student Elena Jankulovska from Macedonia defeated UIC's Cosmo and Belberka, also with a 6-3 score.
During the singles competition, Pomarolli managed a straight-sets victory over UIC's Edit Cosmo, with scores of 6-4, 6-3.
