Track & field team ends home season with top-10 marks and victories

The Illinois State track & field program wrapped up its last home meet of the season, the Senior Spotlight, at the Redbird Track & Field Complex. On this occasion, the team delivered significant results, securing four new top-10 performances and multiple personal bests.

In men's events, Junior Rob Pulliam now shares the 10th position in the program's long jump records with a leap of 7.20m. Freshman Zach Paul found his place in Redbird history for the men's 100m dash, securing sixth place with a time of 10.42.

Senior Kiley Sanders impressed on home ground with a tied-for-eighth record mark in the high jump, leaping 1.75m. Freshman Victor Byaundaombe moved to seventh all-time in the program's triple jump with a mark of 15.32m.

There were individual victories too. Sophomore Jonathan Tegel won the 400m hurdles with a personal best of 54.22. In the 1500m, the team dominated the top three, with Ian Geisler's 3:51.50 leading freshmen Blake Oleson and Luke Barham. In the men's 5000m, Josh Weeks claimed first place, achieving a personal best of 15:13.35. Sophomore Cole Stevens and Adison Scott secured top spots in the hammer throw with personal bests, 57.83m and 51.85m, respectively.

Among the women, Senior Atleigh Hamilton recorded a season-best in the long jump with 5.69m, while Senior Madison Saunders won the triple jump at 12.15m. Several Illinois State athletes also triumphed in their respective events, putting forth a strong collective team performance for their final home meet.

Next, the Redbird squad plans to participate in the Billy Hayes Invitational and Sycamore Open in Indiana, with both events scheduled for May 9.
