Illinois State athlete sets new school record at NCAA West First Round

The Illinois State track and field team completed the first day of the NCAA West First Round in College Station, Texas. Three athletes represented the Redbirds on Thursday afternoon.

Senior Corrina Courser progressed to the quarterfinals of the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 13.17 seconds. This performance set a new Illinois State record, surpassing Hassy-Fashina-Bombata's previous record of 13.29 seconds by .12 seconds. The quarterfinals are scheduled for Saturday at 6:15 p.m. CST.

Junior Erin Starks finished her first year as a Redbird with a time of 18.39 seconds in the hurdles, marking top-10 times in both indoor and outdoor seasons during her inaugural year at Illinois State.

Sophomore Immaculate Daniel clocked a time of 11.37 seconds in the women's 100m dash, concluding her first season as a Redbird where she also set school records for both the indoor 60m dash and outdoor 100m dash.

On Friday, Freshman Victor Byaundaombe is set to compete in the men's triple jump at 2:30 p.m. CST, followed by the men's 4x400m relay team running at 8:45 p.m., wrapping up day three's events.
