City of Fairbury City Council met April 2.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1. Call to order – Mayor Slagel called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

2. Mayor Slagel directed the Clerk to call roll and the following members of Council answered present: Gary Norris, Steve Endres, Charles Hoselton Jr, Jon Kinate, Jim Tipton, and Bill Schmidgall. Jerry Hoffman and Bruce Weber were absent.

3. Pledge of Allegiance

4. Motion to approve the Consent Agenda – Motion by Tipton, second by Hoselton Jr to approve the following items on the Consent Agenda:

A. Minutes from March 19, 2025 council meeting

B. Voucher Invoice Register listing the bills

C. Treasurer’s Cash Report (second meeting of the month)

D. Check Register (second meeting of the month)

E. NONE

F. Overtime Report

Motion carried 6-0 YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Jr Kinate Tipton Schmidgall

5. Mayor Slagel opened Public Comment and the following persons provided comments: NONE

6. Reports of Departments

→ Streets - Lonnie Rhoads, Superintendent reported-

➢ Locust St construction is complete

→ Fire – Josh Hoselton, Chief - absent

→ Sewer – Bruce Pride, Asst. Superintendent – none

→ Water – Mike Mellott, Superintendent – absent

→ Police – Robert McCormick, Chief - absent

→ City – Brett Ashburn, Superintendent reported –

➢ Phase 1 of down town improvements is complete. Phase 2 will start to be assessed

➢ A committee meeting will be April 9th at 6p.m. to discuss employee evaluations and Fairview Haven PUD

→ Legal – Matt Schrock, City Attorney – absent

7. Reports of Aldermen

→ Alderman Norris - none

→ Alderman Endres - none

→ Alderman Hoselton Jr - none

→ Alderman Kinate – Inquired about the start of road work on Route 24

→ Alderman Weber - absent

→ Alderman Hoffman - absent

→ Alderman Tipton – Inquired about North Park and curbs on Carter Dr.

→ Alderman Schmidgall - none

A. Motion by Kinate, second by Endres to approve street closure request from Chamber of Commerce for the Community Sale on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025. Motion carried 6-0 YES Norris Endres Hoselton Jr Kinate Tipton Schmidgall

B. Motion by Endres, second by Norris to approve a request from the VFW to allow It’s Forkin Good food truck to park outside of the VFW on Locust St from 5-8 p.m. on April 12th, 2025. Motion carried 6-0 YES- Norris Endres Hoselton Jr Kinate Tipton Schmidgall

C. Motion by Schmidgall, second by Tipton to approve PUD Application for Fairview Haven. Motion carried 6-0 YES- Norris Endres Hoselton Jr Kinate Tipton Schmidgall

D. Motion by Hoselton Jr, second by Endres to approve request from the National Honors Society to host a 5k from 300 S Calhoun St to North Park and back on May 3rd, 2025 starting at 9:30 a.m. Motion carried 6-0 YES- Norris Endres Hoselton Jr Kinate Tipton Schmidgall

14. Adjournment – Motion by Norris, second by Schmidgall to adjourn at 6:47 p.m.
