Illinois Wesleyan excels on day one of CCIW track and field championships

The Illinois Wesleyan University track and field teams delivered strong performances on the first day of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championships on May 2. The men's and women's teams together achieved 14 All-CCIW performances and claimed three individual titles in the women's events. As the championships proceed, both IWU teams are in third place in the team standings.

The IWU men's team accumulated 37.5 points, while the women scored 37 points. North Central College leads in both the men's and women's competitions with 59 and 44 points respectively. Augustana College is second for the men with 42 points, and Elmhurst University stands second for the women with 41 points.

Carlyssa King, a senior from Decatur, won the women's hammer throw with a distance of 53.42 meters. Junior Adriana Crabtree from Normal took first place in the 3000m steeplechase, clocking in at 10:45.97, placing her ninth in Division III rankings for the season. Annalese Chudy from Libertyville secured the women's 10,000m title, finishing in 37:12.45, having overtaken a competitor from Wheaton with four laps remaining.

In men's field events, senior CJ Ladewig placed fourth in the hammer throw, while Carson Green, a sophomore, earned All-CCIW honors in the javelin and long jump, the latter securing him a runner-up finish. Junior Isaac Whitaker received runner-up All-CCIW honors in the pole vault.

As the championship continues, several IWU athletes have qualified for upcoming finals. The men's and women's teams will aim to improve their standings on the second day of competition, which starts on May 3 at 9:30 a.m. at North Central's Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
