Senior Judah Morris and junior Shai Robinson hit home runs during Illinois State's 6-4 defeat against Northern Illinois at Ralph McKinzie Field on Tuesday.
Robinson's home run brought the Redbirds (22-24) level with the Huskies (19-29) after nine innings, before Northern Illinois secured victory with a walk-off home run.
The game began with the Huskies taking an early lead through a solo home run in the first inning. They extended their advantage in the fourth inning with two more home runs and a bunt single, adding three runs to their tally.
Illinois State scored its first run in the sixth inning courtesy of a solo homer by Judah Morris, marking his 16th of the season. In the ninth inning, Shai Robinson tied the game at 4-4 with a deep center field home run. However, Northern Illinois clinched the win in their half of the ninth inning with a two-run homer to left field.
Carter Monke started for Illinois State, pitching for 3.2 innings. Luke Stulga continued his impressive form by extending his hitting streak to 22 games and his on-base streak to 34 games. Sophomore Matthew Donnison contributed three scoreless innings in relief.
Looking ahead, Illinois State will host UIC for a crucial three-game MVC series at Duffy Bass Field from May 9-11. The first game is scheduled for Friday at 5 pm CT.
