The City of Bloomington and the Town of Normal have introduced a joint initiative called “BN The Solution,” aimed at raising awareness about homelessness and panhandling in Bloomington-Normal and McLean County. The campaign features a new website, BNTHESOLUTION.com, which offers information on local resources such as emergency shelters, food pantries, mental health services, homeless services, and support for those affected by human trafficking.

City of Bloomington City Manager Jeff Jurgens stated, “We want to provide education, resources and ways for the community to take action and support those in need. We believe donating directly to organizations providing homelessness and other social services is a better way to give than giving money to individuals asking for help at local intersections or on our sidewalks.”

Bloomington Mayor Dan Brady said, “This effort gives people the tools to make a difference. We know our residents are generous, and when we come together as a community, we can move toward long-term solutions that change lives.”

Jurgens also noted, “The best way to help those in need is by strengthening the organizations that provide direct support in our community.”

The BN The Solution campaign not only provides educational materials but also details where residents can volunteer or donate directly to local service organizations. Town of Normal City Manager Pamela Reece added, “Donating to local service organizations that combat homelessness provides essential resources that can help individuals regain stability. These contributions fund programs that help people find permanent housing, access mental health services and gain employment.”

Town of Normal Mayor Chris Koos commented, “This effort empowers us all to be a part of the solution. It’s a practical, compassionate way to address homelessness and support the professionals and volunteers already making an impact.”

Through its website, BNTHESOLUTION.com connects users with verified organizations serving homeless populations in Bloomington-Normal. These include Home Sweet Home Ministries, The Salvation Army, Midwest Food Bank, Project Oz, Brightpoint, PATH and the Center for Prevention Abuse.

The municipalities funded additional outreach efforts including posters and window clings designed for display at area businesses. In Bloomington, these materials will be distributed by the Downtown Development Team or can be picked up at the HUB located in the Government Center at 115 E. Washington Street. In Normal, business owners may obtain materials from the Clerk’s Office at City Hall or during upcoming Uptown Partners meetings.
