City of Bloomington Human Relations Commission met July 11.

I.Call to Order
The Commissioners had a meet and greet with Commissioner Gary McGinnis to welcome him to the Human Relations Commission. Commissioner Smith called the meeting to order at 6:19 p.m.
II. Roll Call of Attendance
Commissioners present: CoTinna Harris, Tony Jones, Kiran Konam, Rhonda Smith, Gary McGinnis, Suresh Krishna
Commissioners absent: None
Staff Present: Michael Hurt, Talent Acquisition & Development Manager-HR
III. Public Comment – None
IV. Approval of Minutes:
Consideration of approving the minutes of the Human Relations Commission Regular Meeting of Wednesday, June 13, 2018.
Motion to approve – Commissioner Jones motioned to approve minutes of the Human Relations Commission Regular Meeting of Wednesday, June 13, 2018. Seconded by Commissioner Konam. All in favor. Motion carried.
V. Executive Session –For review and approval of Executive Session meeting minutes of June 13, 2018. Commissioner
Commissioner Jones made a motion to close the regular session and go in to executive Session. Seconded by Commissioner Krishna. All in favor. The motion carried.
Commissioner Jones motioned to accept the minutes of the Executive Session of June 13, 2018. Seconded by Commissioner Harris. All in favor. The motion carried.
Commissioner Jones motioned to close Executive Session and return to Regular Session. Seconded by Commissioner McGinnis. All in favor. The motion carried.
VI. Commissioners reviewed the results of the online vote to continue collaborating with the Town of Normal for the 2019 MLK event. All commissioners voted in favor of continuing to collaborate with the Town of Normal for the 2019 MLK event. However, the Town of Normal HRC has not responded to confirm or decline participation in the 2019 MLK event, since the Bloomington HRC proposed it on June 13, 2018. Commissioner Jones will send an email to the Normal HRC to get final word on their participation decision.
The Bloomington City Council has requested a report of the Human Relations Commissions’ activities and accomplishments for the 2018-2019 year. The report is due in October 2018. The Commissioners discussed past accomplishments and upcoming events. The Commissioners will compile report during regular session in September to make sure the report is inclusive of all HRC achievements.

New Business
Commissioner Krishna proposed that the Mclean County Diversity Project appear at a Commission meeting to share their experience.
Commissioner Jones proposed that Commissioners carve out some time to make themselves available to staff the City table at the upcoming Culture Fest scheduled for August 18, 2018. This is an opportunity to distribute information to raise community awareness about the Human Relations Commission. The preferred time is between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Volunteers will also be available to assist if necessary. The event will be held outdoors in Miller Park.
Commissioner Konam asked if the Commission would conduct a survey as they did last year. Commissioner Jones explained different ways to capture the survey information including an app he had developed.
Commissioner Jones motioned to change the Commission’s regular meeting time from 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The change would take effect immediately. Seconded by Commissioner Krishna. All in favor. The motion carried.
The Commissioners ordered polo shirts carrying the City of Bloomington log followed by “The Human Relations Commission”. The shirts will be available in time to wear at the Culture Fest.
Commissioner Smith thanked the Commission for their understanding in light of her absence from the Commission. She also thanked Commissioner Jones for filling in to chair the Commission.
IX. Adjournment
Motion by Commissioner Krishna to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by Commissioner
Harris. All in favor. The motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 7:08 p.m.
