Retired Prairie Central CUSD 8 employee Melanie Masching saved $83,585 toward her pension over 26 years working for public schools, Illinois Teachers' Retirement Fund (TRS) records show.

Over 40 years of retirement, Masching would collect as much as $2.928 million, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes McLean County Times.

Masching, 55, who currently lives in Bloomington, earned $54,512 in her final year at Prairie Central CUSD 8.

The projection assumes Masching will receive 67.6 percent of that total - $36,854 - in her first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After three years of retirement, Masching will have already received $113,911 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of her contributions to the state teachers' pension fund.

According to the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), 41.2 percent of Prairie Central CUSD 8 students met or exceeded the standards for the "PARCC" exams. ISBE reported that 70.5 percent of district's graduates were deemed "college ready" last year.
