The Illinois House of Representatives adopted a resolution to recognize students at Pontiac Township High School for their work on inclusive sports for all students.
House Resolution 1236 was adopted during the Nov. 27 House floor session.
State Rep. Thomas Bennett (R-Pontiac) said during the session that the students were an amazing group that needed to be recognized.
"The House of Representatives wish to recognize the students at Pontiac Township High School for their national recognition from Special Olympics North America and ESPN for its efforts to include inclusive sports for its students," Bennett said.
Bennett said the high school is one of four schools receiving national recognition for its efforts: Its Special Olympics Unified Champion School program received a National Banner recognition from Special Olympics North America in September.
"We want to congratulate the students at the school and the coordinator and the supportive community of Pontiac," Bennett said.
Bennett said the school began a Peers in Action Program in 1996 and joined Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools in 2012.
The House gave the students and coordinator present a round of applause.
