City of Fairbury Planning Commission met Feb. 13.

Here is the minutes provided by the commission:

The Planning Commission held a meeting at 12 Noon. Members present were Chairman Rick Wilson, Jeremy Leman, Michael Blackwell, Leroy McPherson, Mayor David Slagel. Also in attendance was City Superintendent Brett Ashburn and Stephanie Meints the Planning Commission Secretary.

Review of minutes from January 9, 2018: Motion by Leman, second by McPherson to approve. Motion carried unanimously.

Chairman Rick Wilson opened the meeting with handouts and returning to the conversation held on January 9, 2019 about buying locally. The handouts were about Amiba: American Independent Business Alliance. They are a group that deals with local family owned businesses and organizations. They specialize in developing ways to market and enhance the idea of “buying local”. They have websites and information on how to inform the public of the benefits of shopping local. They also provide brochures, stickers, flyers, and other materials.

Rick stated that a program like this might be a good starting resource to use until they were able to learn and develop their own ideas on how to get the word out about shopping locally.

Michael Blackwell and Leroy McPherson also provided handouts on ideas they had for slogans or ways they thought would be beneficial to promoting locally.

Motion to Adjourn: McPherson, second by Leman
