City of Pontiac issued the following announcement on April 23.
At the historic Strevell House (401 W Livingston St) we'll be unveiling a brand new exhibit - Nine Days in April - The Lincoln Assassination and the Press. The exhibit will feature newspapers from the nine days after Lincoln's assassination as well as other contemporary pieces of print media. We will be celebrating the grand opening with a performance by the 33rd Regiment Band at 9:30*, a speech by Abraham Lincoln himself at 10:30, and a ribbon cutting at 11:00. The exhibit will then be open to peruse with the curators on hand to discuss their research. Lincoln will also be available for photographs.
This event also coincides with our Annual Red Carpet Corridor Festival - a celebration along 13 communities located on 90 miles of Route 66 in Illinois. Pontiac will also be celebrating with the Swinging Bridges Art Festival just a few blocks away, and a ukulele workshop and concert at the Eagle Performing Arts and Conference Center.
*In case of rain, the 33rd Regiment Band performance will be held two blocks away at the Eagle Performing Arts and Conference Center (319 N. Plum St., Pontiac)
