City of Lexington issued the following announcement on May 7.
For the first time in 165 years, Lexington residents will no longer hear the familiar sounds of the train horns blowing as they travel through our community.
I received notice that our request for a Quiet Zone has been approved. Effective June 1, 2019 at 9am, the new Lexington Quiet Zone takes effect. This Lexington Quiet Zone will affect all the crossings in the City of Lexington; Main Street, Chestnut Street, Orange Street & North Street.
On that day you will notice "No Train Horn Signs" posted at all crossings. I urge everyone to continue to use caution and be observant when approaching any railroad crossings.
This has been a lengthy and sometimes frustrating process, as is working with any Federal agency. I thank you for your patience.
