Illinois State University and Heartland Community College received nearly $585,000 as part of a $1.5 million grant for TRIO Student Support Services.
The university is receiving $309,457, and the community college is getting $275,104, 25 News reported in August.
The grants fund programs that increase college retention and graduation rates among traditionally disadvantaged students, Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Il) said, 25 News reported.
"The Student Support Services program has a strong track record of helping disadvantaged students succeed in college and I'm proud to support it," Davis said, 25 News reported. "The colleges and universities I represent have told me how important this funding is to helping some of the most vulnerable students become successful."
"I look forward to seeing them put these dollars into action."
According to the program's website, TRiO Student Support Services is a supportive academic community working together toward academic excellence.
