City of Fairbury City Council met Oct. 5

City of Fairbury City Council met Oct. 5.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1. Call to order – Mayor Slagel called the meeting to order.

2. Mayor Slagel directed the Clerk to call roll and the following members of Council answered present: Gary Norris, Steve Endres, Charles Hoselton, Bruce Weber and Gerald Hoffman. Jon Kinate, James Tipton and Bill Schmidgall were absent.

3. Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag

4. Motion to approve the Consent Agenda – Motion by Hoselton, second by Endres to approve the following items on the Consent Agenda:

A. Minutes from the October 5, 2022 council meeting

B. Voucher Invoice Register listing the bills

C. Treasurer’s Cash Report (second meeting of the month)

D. Check Register (second meeting of the month)

E. 601 E Walnut – 472 sq ft @ $2.50 = 1180; 402 W Livingston- 712 sq ft @ $2.50 sq ft = $1780

F. Overtime Report

Motion carried 5-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Weber Hoffman

5. Mayor Slagel opened Public Comment and the following persons provided comments:

→ None

6. Reports of Departments

→ Street Superintendent/Fire Chief Steidinger was absent

→ Sewer Superintendent Duncan was absent

→ Water Superintendent Mellott was absent

→ Chief of Police McCormick reported

• Is going to move forward with the new squad purchase in black

→ City Superintendent Ashburn reported

• The 3rd St. repair work has been completed with diagonal parking in place of the parallel parking that was previously there

→ City Attorney Mann was absent

7. Reports of Aldermen

→ Alderman Norris – no report

→ Alderman Endres – no report

→ Alderman Hoselton – no report

→ Alderman Kinate was absent

→ Alderman Weber – no report

→ Alderman Hoffman – no report

→ Alderman Tipton was absent

→ Alderman Schmidgall was absent

10. New Business – Discussion/Action Items 

A. Motion by Norris, second by Hoselton to approve a resolution appointing Cory Cottrell to the Zoning Board of Appeals. Motion carried 5-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Weber Hoffman 

B. Motion by Hoselton, second by Hoffman to approve a request from Linda Fagan and Darren Kerrins to use the gazebo in Memorial Park on Saturday, October 29th @5:30p.m. for their wedding. Motion carried 5-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Weber Hoffman 

C. Motion by Endres, second by Weber to approve a request from Prairie Central High School Cheerleaders to host a “Party in the Park” at North Park on Saturday, October 15th from 1-3p.m. Motion carried 5-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Weber Hoffman 

D. Motion by Weber, second by Norris to approve donating to Fairview Haven’s Harvest of Sharing 36th Annual Benefit Supper matching the previous year of 2021’s donation amount from the City ($1,000). Motion carried 5-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Weber

11. Other Items for Discussion & Information

A. Mayor Slagel shared information regarding the 2022 GLCEDC Annual Dinner

12. Public Comment - NONE

13. Motion by Norris, second by Endres to enter Executive Session at 6:46 p.m. Motion carried 5-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Weber Hoffman

PERSONNEL – Section 2(c)(1) – Employee hiring, firing, compensation, discipline and performance. (Note: An independent contractor is not an employee).

Motion by Norris, second by Hoffman to enter Open Session at 7:32 p.m. Motion carried 5-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Weber Hoffman

ACTION FROM EXECUTIVE SESSION - NONE

14. Adjournment – Motion by Weber, second by Norris to adjourn @ 7:33 p.m
