City of Fairbury City Council met May 17.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1. Call to order – Mayor Slagel called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

2. Mayor Slagel directed the Clerk to call roll and the following members of Council answered present: Gary Norris, Steve Endres, Charles Hoselton, Bruce Weber, Jerry Hoffman, James Tipton.

3. Pledge of Allegiance

4. Motion to approve the Consent Agenda – Motion by Hoselton, second by Norris to approve the following items on the Consent Agenda:

A. Minutes from the May 3, 2023, council meeting

B. Voucher Invoice Register listing the bills

C. Treasurer’s Cash Report (second meeting of the month)

D. Check Register (second meeting of the month)

E. NONE

F. Overtime Report

Motion carried 6-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Weber Hoffman Tipton

5. Mayor Slagel opened Public Comment and the following persons provided comments:

➢ Adam Dontz came to thank council for the donation to GLCEDC.

6. Reports of Departments

→ Streets & Fire – Martin Steidinger, Superintendent & Fire Chief-

• Picked up a skid unit that Rural Fire Purchased

→ Sewer – Bruce Pride, Asst. Superintendent– absent

→ Water – Mike Mellott, Superintendent – absent

→ Police – Robert McCormick, Chief reported-

• The squad car that was hit by a deer has been repaired.

→ City – Brett Ashburn, Superintendent reported –

• Lights at North Park have been ordered to be repaired

→ Legal – Steven Mann, City Attorney – none

7. Reports of Aldermen

→ Alderman Norris reported the pool is full. The High School’s landscaping class landscaped the front of the Stafford Center. The pool opens May 27th.

→ Alderman Endres – Thanked Police Chief for National Police Appreciation Week

→ Alderman Hoselton – A resident reached out about adding a stop sign on 3rd and Columbia St. facing East and West.

→ Alderman Kinate – absent

→ Alderman Weber – none

→ Alderman Hoffman – none

→ Alderman Tipton – Resident on Carter Dr approached about a drainage issue

→ Alderman Schmidgall – absent

10. New Business – Discussion/Action Items

A. Motion by Hoselton, second by Weber to approve road close request from Dave’s Supermarket for 73rd Anniversary Customer Appreciation Event June 13th from 7am3pm. Motion carried 6-0 YES Norris Endres Hoselton Weber Hoffman Tipton

B. Motion by Hoselton, second by Weber to approve purchase of a new front-end loader for the street department. Motion carried 6-0 YES- Norris Endres Hoselton Weber Hoffman Tipton

➢ Add Motor Fuel to the next agenda

12. Public Comment

NONE

13. Executive Session

Motion by Norris, second by Endres to enter Executive Session at 6:56pm. Motion carried 6-0 YES- Norris Endres Hoselton Weber Hoffman Tipton

A. Personnel – Section 2(c)(1) – Employee hiring, firing, compensation, discipline and performance. (Note: An independent contractor is not an employee).

Motion by Norris, second by Tipton to enter Open Session @ 7:11pm.

14. Adjournment – Motion by Norris, second by Hoselton to adjourn at 7:12 p.m.
